چکیده

on the eye increases intraocular pressure to approximately 90 mm Hg, which is sufficient to overcome systolic pressures and cease central retinal artery blood flow. Given that even hard squeeze blinks have been shown to increase intraocular pressure in a range from 50 to 110 mm Hg, it is certainly conceivable that the appearance of peripheral ROP in this patient may have been altered through this mechanism. Important advantages of wide-angle imaging for ROP include the opportunity for objective documentation of retinal structures, as well as serial comparison of findings. Using these images, telemedicine has the potential to improve the overall quality of ROP care through accessibility to experts and standardization of examination procedures. This report demonstrates that errors in image capture and interpretation can occur, even in severe posterior disease. Recognition of these cases, with adequate training of photographers and image graders, can improve the accuracy and reliability of wide-angle retinal imaging and telemedical ROP diagnosis.

Macular hole formation, progression, and surgical repair: case series of serial optical coherence tomography and time lapse morphing video study

BACKGROUND To use a new medium to dynamically visualize serial optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans in order to illustrate and elucidate the pathogenesis of idiopathic macular hole formation, progression, and surgical closure. CASE PRESENTATIONS Two patients at the onset of symptoms with early stage macular holes and one patient following repair were followed with serial OCTs. Images cent...

Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma of the eyelid with a rapidly fatal course.

dition to a mechanical, tractional relationship participates in macular hole formation, at least in some instances. The OCT images in the case reported here depict this apparently tractionless sequence more clearly than previously described. An alternative explanation is that the traction component is below the resolution of OCT. A possible mediator might be the outer wall of vitreoschisis as h...

Photoreceptor Outer Segment on Internal Limiting Membrane after Macular Hole Surgery: Implications for Pathogenesis

PURPOSE This report presents a case, which highlights key principles in the pathophysiology of macular holes. It has been hypothesized that anteroposterior (AP) and tangential vitreous traction on the fovea are the primary underlying factors causing macular holes [Nischal and Pearson; in Kanski and Bowling: Clinical Ophthalmology: A Systemic Approach, 2011, pp 629-631]. Spectral domain optical ...

Macular hole formation: new data provided by optical coherence tomography.

OBJECTIVE To establish the sequence of events leading from vitreofoveal traction to full-thickness macular hole formation. METHODS Both eyes of 76 patients with a full-thickness macular hole in at least 1 eye were examined by biomicroscopy and optical coherence tomography. RESULTS Sixty-one fellow eyes had a normal macula. Optical coherence tomograms showed central detachment of the posteri...

Idiopathic full thickness macular hole: natural history and pathogenesis.

Although full thickness macular holes (FTMH) were originally described in the last century, in relation to trauma, inflammation, and myopia, 3 more recent clinical studies have shown that the vast majority are idiopathic and occur with a prevalence of 1/3300 usually in the 6th and 7th decades of life. Many clinical studies have implicated vitreous traction as the cause of idiopathic FTMH format...

Macular hole formation and spontaneous closure after vitrectomy for vitreomacular traction documented in spectral-domain optical coherence tomography

BACKGROUND We present a case of a macular hole formation and its spontaneous closure after vitrectomy for vitreomacular traction. To our knowledge, it is the first description of spontaneous closure of the macular hole after vitrectomy for vitreomacular traction. CASE PRESENTATION A 78-year-old woman presented decreased visual acuity and metamorphopsia in the right eye due to vitreomacular tr...
